2 Pronged-Idea: Paid Membership and Upgrade Members

This has been discussed before in the MyBB Community, actually. After liking and liking MyBB even more as I play around with it, I figured someone will explore the possibility of adding a paid membership option here or something. Basically I'd like an option inside the admin panel to designate certain sections of the forum to be a paid option, like there's a section viewable to free members and another that's only seen by paid members. When someone signs up for free, likes what they see, and decides to pay to see the paid-member section, they'll be automatically upgraded. Then if the paid member wants to cancel, the forum owner can cancel the membership. Of course, if the paid membership option involves paypal, then the member has to log inside his/her paypal account to cancel as well. :P But why stop there? How about a paid membership option for multi-level? Oops, maybe I'm asking for too much. :D Edit: I just found a post currently indicating that MyBB will remain free for as long as the developers decide it to be, so I can understand why they prefer this option to be a plugin or "optional" add-on. Just thought I'd post this as an idea, that's all. ;) OTOH, if ever they "decide" to add this option in, perhaps a link giving a portion of proceeds to them might be fair enough. It does cost money to support development of a software, after all, especially if it's being given for free. :) *** NOTE: For those of you who have neglected to read the full text above, this idea is NOT about making MyBB paid software. If you got that impression, perhaps you should consider reading the idea again :) *** More Suitable as Plugin |

Well, this really isn't making MyBB Paid, this is so members pay to view your forum. This would be your personal revenue, not going to MyBB. I give you a thumbs up. If you could give it more options, such as what type of payment (example. Paypal, MyBux) then you could make them pay using MyBux, which would be awesome!

This should be a plugin or mod, not a default feature. Most forums are free for members to register and post so there isn't enough demand for it to be default.

I don't like paid stuff. :)

@DrPoodle, that would be voluntary. :P Like the way that it is at AdminFusion, where you can become a Supporter IF you want to, just to support the site.

For those of you who didn't fully read the idea, this isn't about making MyBB paid software. It's for making able "paid subscriptions" from your forum's users so that they can have special features, etc.
I think this should be a plugin/modification.

I've been holding my breath for this for a long time now. I'd love to see it either implemented or a modification made for it.

I have to use Simple Machines Forum. Seriously. I have a site I'm putting off because I need a 'member' section for my forum and SMF has the functionality. (and I'd rather use open source rather than vb or ipb.)
I'd prefer use MyBB, though.
There is a demand for this. If it's in core, it can be 'marketed' as such.
