This could be broken into MANY small incremental improvements...and some of them might be even more useful as plugins later....but here's the beef... - ranged events (where you can define the beginning date/time and the ending date/time) Potential plugins for this system: - event registration system More could be come up if some brainstorming was done... cheers,

i'm very much for the calendar. My forum has lots and lots of events.
if anything, i'd like to just be able to select a date on "new post" and have it show up in the calendar, and in the "today's birthdays' section, on the main page.that would be grand!

I would use the calendar more if these features were included. At the moment all my calendar is used for is showing birthdays, but then the member usually makes a thread on that anyway!

It has been discussed before, and I think the calendar is to be rewritten for 1.4 (or 2.0) to include most if not all of those features.

I think calendar is more of an after thought on most forums. It's useful for some but not widely used. I am not sure if more features on the calendar should be priority. There are a lot of other things that I think would be higher on the list of things admins want.
I am holding my vote.

just thought of some other plugins for it in the future
- usergroup events
- event reminders (CRON?)
- event image (logo) - perhaps a thumbnail showing with the title...
- perhaps a sync-utility to something like google-calendar (very marginal need but a neat plugin if possible) -

the calender would be better if it show the month a bit larger. (nothing against the navigation breadcrumb but really should be considered.

"Add public event" and "Add private event" should still be available on dates with events. It is possible that multiple things happen on the same day, and I don't want to have to add them from the month view.
We've already discussed categories for events, with each category affecting the event title display.
I've already expressed interest in reoccurring events (such as Labor Day being the 1st Monday of September of every year, and Patch Tuesday is the 2nd Tuesday of every month). There needs to be a way to allow exceptions to reoccurring events. This system will need some serious thought.
Adding optional times to events would be cool, but would open a can of worms, especially for multi-day or reoccurring events.
Note for Kimmo: I don't think MyBB should get involved in cron jobs. Cron jobs are OS specific, plus not every webmaster has proper permissions to set them up. If you want to make a PHP cron job that reads the events from the database and sends out reminders more power to you, but I think that goes beyond the scope of a bulletin board system.

I would like to use this calendar, but I can't. It needs a way to post multi day events, times and recurring events. You have my vote.
