A really nice feature and seemingly simple to do, would be to add Group Promotion to MyBB.

You could set users to automatically become a certain user group when they reach a certain post count, and then, that rank would promote them to another user group when they reach a higher post count.

This feature is in many other free forums software and its kind of strange that it isn't yet in MyBB.

This feature would be mostly an "enhancement" to the ranking system.

You could use this to reveal other boards to users of a certain group without mods/admins having to manually add these people to the user group.

This would also be helpful in restricting new members from the more difficult features of the board. For an example: You could hide the PM system to all new members, and then when they get to around 10-20 posts, and they get used to the layout of the forums, you can introduce more advanced features such as the PM system, profiles, and theming.

Again, this would be a VERY useful addition to MyBB and would help to assert that MyBB is on an equal (though to many of us fans, advanced) level to other forums software.
