A lot of people just browse forums and don't join, so my idea - probably best suited as a plugin - Is set a maxamum time for people browsing the forums to be allowed to look at them, for example if it is set to 20 mins after a user has been looking for 20 mins the board will be locked saying a message like: Sorry, you have exceded the daily allowed time to view forums for unregistered users, please login or register,

Im not sure myself if this is a good idea, but it is a way to incurage people who just view and not register to register and get posing...

  1. Personally I don't like the idea. There's nothing that annoys me more than having to register to just read a forum; so if I can access the forum but after X minutes I'm asked to register, maybe I won't register and will go to another site. I think that people will think as me. Also, when they're forced to register, you talk about incurage people to post. I'm not very sure about that, but if someone registers because s/he just wants to read, maybe s/he will end spamming the forums. IMO, if someone has nothing to say, it's better that s/he is not registered, just to avoid that, spaming.

    Of course, this is a personal opinion. And if this idea is included in MyBB it'll be configurable, so I don't care much about it ;)

  4. This would not be an ideal feature on many forums, particularly those which offer product support. Imagine having to register purely to get help with something.

    This is most definitely better suited for a plugin/modification.
