So when you try to send a PM to an offline member, it displays a popup/notice saying that they are offline? What is the point behind this? The PM will still be sent successfully.

Isn't the point of a PM to be sent when a user is offline? Since if they were online, you could just contact them via IM/etc.

Or what about having it being selectable by each member..I know myself, as a user who sometimes views forums and doesn't talk and then leaves, would like this option as I might accidentaly get a message and ignore it

it would be nice to know if they are still there or have left, or if theres no chat room , or if to wait to expect a reply or a response? or to continue to send another message or check the main page to see if theyre on line.its a matter of convienance and feature ability of access,,

Pow-Mia: Possibly one of the main points behind forums is that it is convenient for a member to view something at a time that suits them best. Why would it matter if the member you're trying to PM is offline at that time? Once they visit the forums again they will be able to view the PM.
I'm not sure that I fully understand why you would need to be alerted if the recipient is offline while sending a PM.. -

If you really want to know, you can check their profile (by clicking their username) after sending the PM. As I have said to people before (someone who cut up rough with me for going to bed after asking them a question), a forum is not a chatroom, people can easily pickup information when they are next online. That is the point.

true, you all have a point to make !
i still think that it would be a convienant feature to have to know, ike instant messenger has that feature, although its not an email or is a instant message , its still a form of instant messaging.
including if the forum is not a chat room , alot of people use the pm as a form of chat and instant messaging!
a poll could be taken , to prove that, but its like making a point or expressing your opinon, everyone is entitled to their's...
