It would be better if the quick replies had a button bar for making bold text, underlined, smilies, etc.
Like other forums have (like vBulletin for example)

  1. Most forum systems do - it's called an WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Get. And most forums add it to their quick reply, if they have one..And most experienced forum users, can just do the [b], [i], etc. themselves..
