Read-Only Mode for forum

A "read-only mode" in order to prevent from delta in mySQL database.

What does "read-only mode" mean?
You (or the admin only) can browse the forum, while NOTHING is changed to the local config files nor to the mySQL DB: login history/Who was online, date/time, logs, ...

This way you could run a copy of the forum in order to do tests, beeing sure your DB is untouched.

Why this idea? I am about to move my forum to a different hosting company. I hesitate to run a copy of thr forum (testwise), because it could mess up my Database.

  1. Doesn't turning the board offline do what you want? It's under Board Settings --> Change --> Board Online / Offline

    Maybe I don't fully understand. :)

  2. He/She doesn't want to turn off the current main board until the other board will be setup and fine or until the changes will be tested. so the idea is to add a setting that will enable the most possible functionality whilst nothing is changed with the database. maybe that setting will be another file (eg 'readonly' or 'nowrite') to the main folder like the 'lock' file in the install directory.

As a coder I'm changing many times the code of my board and until now I was always test the changes only with another testing board. It'll be nice if I could test things on my main board (of course some changes need to write to the database so they shouldn't work).

    Voted!
