Switch Between Portal /Forum Index as Homepage

On a few sites I run I have made the Portal the homepage and renamed index.php to forums.php etc, but then I have had to change some links in files etc, it would be good if there were a 'switch' in the admin cp, which allowed us to set which page to use for the homepage, the portal or forum index.

  1. Easily done manually. I don't find the portal used very often at most mybb forums that I see. A feature like this I do not support.

  2. i think it mite be a good one because i hate having to edit files and that like i ike to login and set up in the ACP to save time and make it a lot easy so yes i like this.

  4. I think it's a good idea. It makes sense. IMHO we need to provide easier integration the portal should the administrator choose to use it as the homepage. After all, the portal is supposed to be a place where you can find out all the latest threads, announcements, etc, and choose where you want to go.

  5. I like this idea. I have also changed my portal.php to my index.php, and it does get annoying when you forget to change them back when you upgrade...lol

Seeing as the portal is there, why not have the option to use it how you want.The most popular portal question is how to use it as the index page.Just look at how many want to make the change.Doing a forum search I think warrants this as a good idea.I even made a thread way back about having this option in the software.

  7. It should be easy to have a Yes/No in the ACP and then for the index.php to detect if this is an initial view of index.php and then show the portal.

  8. This is a very good idea, however some people do this, they put the sidebar on the index so it has the same(ish) affect.

  9. It's a very good idea. You don't know what is the requirement of a certain administrator. I would be interested to know why it can't be made an on/off feature?

Honestly, I DON'T think it'd be a good idea for one simple reason..It'd require you to have the portal.php file all the time - and the code to switch between it all the time..Unless, however, you just edit the index.php file to have either the index_body.htm template or whatever it is, or the portal_body.htm file depending on whether the administrator has it set for the normal body, or the portal body.
